Online Shopping Security Tips

May 14th, 2009 by admin

Be Familiar with the Merchant

When you’re dealing with an online retailer, it’s good practice to be familiar with their name and reputation. Be weary of unknown or obscure merchants and check with online reviews, directories, and even the Better Business Bureau or The Federal Trade Commission before making a purchase.

Shop with Secure Websites

Before handing over your credit card number, make sure the website is secure. A secure website uses encryption technology to transfer your personal information securely and to prevent those not authorized from obtaining it. So how do you know if a website is secure? Most secure websites will have https:// in the address bar, which indicates it is a secure site. Some will have a closed padlock icon which is also an indication of a secure website.

Check the Details

Before placing an order, make sure you know the merchant’s policies on returns, exchanges, shipping charges, warranties, and other important information. Do they have contact information (e.g. an email address and legitimate phone number) listed so you can immediately contact them if you have a question or a problem occurs? Find out if they offer shipping insurance or a tracking number so you can keep track of the item during transport.

Making Payments

Make sure the online retailer offers a myriad of payment methods you can use (especially if you need to make international payments). They should have information about how they process your payment and if they use a third-party payment processor to do so.

Read the Privacy Policy

Fully read the website’s privacy policy and terms of use before making a purchase; reputable retailers will disclose whether or not they intend to share your information with a third-party or if they will send you marketing information via the contact information you provided.

What to Look For in a Cell Phone

April 28th, 2009 by admin

In these modern times, the cell phone has become one of the most essential tools a person could ever have. Several decades ago, only a few individuals have cell phones and these were the very bulky units. Over the years, cell phones have become more stylish and full-packed with various features. If you are planning to grab a cell phone, then remember the following:

First things first, determine your communication needs. Most of us rely on the cell phones in communicating with people, yet there might be other demands that a cell phone can cater to. So know what you need to make you decide easier. If you need to do a lot of data processing or similar tasks, you might consider buying a PDA, instead.

Next, consider the carrier plans and coverage. Compare calling plans of several service providers. Be sure that there is a strong signal and coverage in areas that you frequently visit. If you plan to travel out of the country, select a quad-band GSM cell phone. This will make you avoid having to rent supported phones when outside the country.

Consider the cell phone features that you need. Most of the cell phones sold today have cameras, MP3 players, MMS, games, GPRS capability, FM radios among others. Check if you really need these features and if not, save your dollars by being a practical buyer.

Lastly, check for more options. You may find great deals on the Internet. You may also refer to product reviews to make sure that you can select a satisfactory product.

Why winter tires are important for the winter

December 24th, 2008 by admin

Winter is fast approaching and this means a new set of tires for your used car. It doesn’t mean that you will replace your tire with the same kind that you use during the most times of the year although it’s a new one. Instead, you have to make use of winter tires. To some drivers, it is said to be a hassle especially if they already have all – season tires in place but generally, it is highly recommended because of the benefits that it gives to the driver during the coldest season of the year.

The main reason behind the use of winter tires is the safety and peace of mind that it represents. This is because it helps the driver avoiding skidding or sliding on the roads especially during this time of the year where it is full of ice and snow. This is because winter tires are composed of a special rubber that helps in maintaining its integrity in the cold temperatures as opposed to normal or all-season tires which begins to harden the moment it is exposed to colder temperatures making it lose its traction. Aside from that, winter tires have deeper threads that make it easier to “grip” the road while expelling the water and snow from it.
This is why winter tires are a must for every driver in winter. It helps in preventing any the occurrence of road accidents which is very common during this time of the year. By using winter tires, driving can still become a safe and fun experience even during winter.

Shopping malls are already playing Christmas songs and selling plenty of Christmas ornaments and ideal gifts. By these proofs, we can shout out loud that Christmas is definitely in the air!

Many say that giving material gifts is not the essence of Christmas. On the contrary, it is also debatable that giving gifts and shopping for Christmas materials are already part of the Christian culture and therefore, everyone should respect that.

Moving on, shopping for Christmas is very fun especially if you are with someone because he or she can give her opinions about the things you are about to buy. Take the following tips for planning your Christmas shopping.

Decide on what shopping mall you are going to. It will also be better if you know what are the things you can buy there so that you don’t have to go to another place. During this holiday season, there are malls that offer great discounts for their shoppers so better be always updated about it.

Create a list of things you need to buy – from decorations to gifts.

Know your budget first. Be sure to have enough money for all the things you need to buy. It will be very disappointing if you will run out of money in the middle of your shopping.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT CELL PHONE PROVIDER

October 15th, 2008 by admin

We are right now in the information revolutions era, when communication and every person’s access to information are just as important as the three basic necessities of food, shelter, and clothing. Now, if there is one gadget that can best exemplify this era, I guess most of us will vote for the cell phone hands down. Why the cell phone? Basically, it is because this one-of-a-kind, innovative little piece of technology is what really revolutionized our tendencies to communicate – that is, to send and receive information.

But of course, here is one thing that all cell phone users must bear in mind: just having the cell phone unit itself is not enough to deem you part of the information revolutions clique. If you have a cell phone, you ought to get connected to other cell phone users as well through a cell phone provider.

The Scoop On: The Cell Phone Provider

So, just what is a cell phone provider? The term itself actually has three connotations, as follows:

  • A cell phone provider is an individual or a company that manufactures and/ or sells cell phone units.
  • A cell phone provider is an individual or a company that markets cell phone plans and connection.
  • A cell phone provider is an individual or a company that provides both unit and the plan.

So, to keep it simple, we can say that any merchant who peddles wares that have something to do with the industry of cell phones is actually a cell phone provider. But right now, for purposes of discussion, we’ll be touching on the kind of cell phone provider that provides both mobile phones and plans.

What Cell Phone Providers Are Made Of

The packages that cell phone providers lay out to customers vary, but there are some that are inherent in most cell phone provider packages. These are as follows:

The plan- this determines how you pay for the service. A cell phone plan can be postpaid or prepaid. In a postpaid cell phone plan, the company sends you a bill and you pay for it. On the other hand, in a prepaid cell phone plan, before you can avail of text messaging, call, or streaming features, you have to load credits to your cell phone first.

The access- this includes call range and mobile Internet access. A cell phone provider may only be available to a certain locality or may enable you to access people from all parts of the globe.

What To Look For In A Cell Phone Provider

When zeroing in your cell phone provider of choice, it is actually largely dependent on your preferences. If you’re only intention is to use your cell phone to call or send messages, then a conventional cell phone provider that provides fast and easy connection to other mobile phones would probably suffice. But if you’re into games and multimedia, and your cell phone is Internet-ready, then of course, you might want to check for cell phone providers that provide just that kind of service.

Donate your baby items for tax break!

September 10th, 2008 by admin

To start, search through the used baby clothing and place it into piles. Some of the clothes will likely be in excellent condition, and some may even have the sales tags on them. If any are damaged and cannot be repaired, throw them out. You will want to sort through the rest of the baby clothes by their current condition; used, slightly used or worn. The clothing should also be sorted by size and/or the age of the baby such as 0-3 months, 3-6 months, etc. After you have sorted the baby clothing, you need to consider which route you will use to dispose of the items.

Donate the items to a charity, consider charities that are local to your hometown that work with children and families. Call to find out where you can drop the clothing off, what types of used clothing they accept and whether they provide a receipt. The receipt is needed when you file your taxes, as you may be able to take advantage of a tax break the following year.

Shopping and saving money at the sametime!

August 26th, 2008 by admin

We constantly shop either for simple things we need like groceries, clothes, or well just to make our self feel better.  Well here are some of my shopping tips that I’ve been using to get what I want for less.

Never go groceries shopping when you are hungry, because you tend to grab anything within your reach at a very unreasonable price.  Instead go on day when you have some extra free time and spend some time checking on coupons and stuff.

Always pay with cash if you don’t have it you can’t afforded it.  Yes there is credit cards but that means your usually using money that you don’t have.  So cash all the way.

When your buying gifts for yourself give it a second thought think if you really need it or not? or can i get something similar at another store for a cheaper price?  I know when I go pick up shoes a mall even though 5 stores carry the same Puma that I want there is usually 1 store that sells the exact same pair for a few bucks less.

Overall take a moment to think about what your purchasing before you make the purchase it will save you a bundle in the long run.
